How to fit a campervan sink?

Updated: Jun 25

Design:

Before fitting your sink, First you must decide how you wish to mount your new Little Vanporium melamine sink in your tiny home. See our inspiration page if you are undecided. Sinkspiration | The Little Vanporium

Measure Your Space:

Begin by measuring the designated area in your campervan where you intend to install the sink. This may be a campervan kitchen unit or campervan bathroom area.

Make sure the sink you choose fits comfortably in the available space.

Gather Tools:

Collect the necessary tools for installation, including a holesaw, a jigsaw, sealant, and a level.

Choose Sink Placement:

Decide how you want the sink to sit within your worktop. Depending on your preference, you may need a holesaw or a jigsaw to create the necessary hole for the sink.

Mark Sink Placement:

Flip the sink upside down and mark the desired location on the worktop using chalk or a pencil.

Measure Sink Diameter:

Measure the inner diameter of the sink at the desired depth within the worktop. If you want the sink to sit on top of the worktop, a 103mm hole saw will suffice. Mark the center of the circle and cut out the hole using the hole saw.

Create a Trammel:

Drill a hole at one end of a wooden batten (your center fixing point). Measure half the full diameter from the center of the first hole and mark it on the batten. Fix the batten loosely to the worktop with a screw, allowing it to rotate freely. Use the second hole to draw a perfect circle indicating the size for the sink.

Cut Out Marked Circle:

Drill a hole wider than the jigsaw blade near the marked circle. Use the jigsaw to follow the line and cut out the circle.

Check Sink Placement:

Place the sink into the hole to ensure it sits in the worktop as desired. Use a level to ensure it is even with the worksurface.

Apply Sealant:

Once satisfied with the placement, use sealant around the edges to secure the sink and prevent leaks. Allow the sealant to dry as per the manufacturer's instructions before testing for leaks.

Attach Drainage Pipe:

After confirming there are no leaks, attach the drainage pipe. Consider using a flexible grey waste pipe and secure it with a jubilee clip for extra stability. If you require a waste pipe they can be found here - Sink Waste Pipe | The Little Vanporium

Install Tap System (if required):

If you need a tap system, consider our simple cold water tap kits tap kits -> Sink Starter Pack | The Little Vanporium. Ensure proper installation following the instructions and test all fixtures for functionality or our new no wires required recharable tap!

Note: If you feel uncertain or uncomfortable with the plumbing task, it is advisable to consult a plumber for safe and proper sink installation.
